This eighteenth century Chinese vase-lamp combines Chinoiserie style with English Country House charm. The porcelain baluster vessel features a blue and white glaze with a cobalt underglaze floral border and a pagoda landscape motif. Recent aged brass fittings sit atop the ceramic body, which shows restoration work. A pleated navy and gold patterned fabric shade completes the piece. At 45 cm high, 31 cm wide, and 31 cm deep, the table lamp stands on a dark wood surface. Ideal for placement on a sideboard top in a living room, hallway, or study, the lamp provides soft illumination while adding traditional pattern and colour to an interior. The combination of the hand-decorated porcelain vessel and the textured fabric shade suits both classic and eclectic room schemes. The piece works well alongside other traditional furnishings or as a standalone accent on a side table or console.

FAQs

A Chinese porcelain vase lamp is a lighting fixture created by converting a hand-painted or moulded Chinese ceramic vessel into an electric table lamp, typically topped with brass fittings and a fabric shade.

These lamps feature a high-fired kaolin clay ceramic base decorated with cobalt blue underglaze paint, fitted with metal or brass electrical mountings and a fabric shade.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-painted brushwork with natural variation in cobalt intensity, subtle wear along the unglazed foot rim, and drill holes or collars added specifically for electrical wiring conversion.

Place the lamp on a dark timber sideboard, console table, or desk to add graphic contrast and traditional motif detailing against plain painted walls.

Dust the porcelain base regularly with a soft dry cloth, clean pleated fabric shades using a soft brush vacuum attachment, and periodically check the wiring for safe operation.
