Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of table lamps dates from 1920 in the Chinoiserie style. Each lamp comprises a dark green baluster ceramic body decorated with gold Chinoiserie landscape scenes, set upon a stepped brass base and fitted with a neutral drum shade. The visual elements include faceted hexagonal lower sections, smooth turned tapering necks, and a polished metallic lustre on the metal mounts. The dimensions are 60 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 16 cm deep. Such lighting suits placement on a sideboard top or console table in a traditional drawing room or hallway. The pieces provide atmospheric illumination while serving as decorative accents within an English Country House interior scheme.

FAQs

Chinoiserie represents a European artistic style originating in the seventeenth century that incorporates Chinese-inspired motifs, pagodas, landscapes, and gilding onto furniture and lighting.

These lamps typically feature transfer-printed or hand-painted ceramic and porcelain bodies, mounted on cast brass or bronze bases, and completed with fabric shades.

Period examples exhibit natural oxidisation on brass fittings, hand-applied gilt ornamentation with gentle wear, solid ceramic weight, and traditional baluster or ginger jar silhouettes.

Position them symmetrically on a sideboard, console, or matching bedside tables to establish visual balance and complement neutral walls or timber panelling.

Dust ceramic surfaces and fabric shades with a soft dry microfibre cloth, avoid harsh chemical detergents on painted or gilded details, and buff brass plinths sparingly with metal polish.
