Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian Arts and Crafts solid oak cupboard follows a traditional Shaker design aesthetic. The timber has a warm brown colour with a clear grain visible across the vertical planks of the single door. Details include a moulded cornice at the top, a square plinth base, an inset maker's label inside, and an original turned wooden knob with a keyhole beside it. Standing 175 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 45 cm deep, this tall freestanding wardrobe suits various domestic spaces as a practical storage solution for clothing or linens. It fits well in a bedroom, hallway, or dressing room within an English Country House setting.

FAQs

Arts and Crafts oak furniture emphasises honest construction, visible joinery, and functional design. Originating in the late nineteenth century, the style rejects mass production in favour of traditional hand-craftsmanship, straight architectural lines, and the natural beauty of timber grain.

Plank door cupboards were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as English oak, walnut, or fruitwood. The doors were formed using vertical timber planks, often secured with tongue-and-groove joints or internal battens, finished with simple wooden or iron hardware.

Authentic pieces feature traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-planed surfaces, and minimal ornate carving. Look for maker marks, stamped metal plaques, or inlaid ivory discs typical of manufacturers like Heal & Son, alongside natural medullary ray patterns in quarter-sawn oak.

A tall single-door oak cupboard works effectively as a coat robe in an entryway, a linen store on a landing, or additional pantry storage in a modern kitchen. The warm timber tones provide a grounding contrast against contemporary neutral walls and plaster finishes.

Maintain oak furniture by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year to nourish the wood. Keep the piece clear of direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting.
