This azure blue opaline glass scent bottle belongs to the Charles X period around 1830. The piece takes a lobed, bulbous shape with a flared rim and an everted neck, accompanied by a matching bulbous glass stopper. Hand-gilded floral decorations wrap around the body, complemented by gilded bands along the rim, stopper, and neck, plus a beaded molding encircling the upper shoulder. The entire object stands 15 cm in height and measures 11 cm in diameter, presenting a compact silhouette suitable for display upon a bedroom dressing table or a living room sideboard. Its bright finish and traditional French design bring a historic decorative accent to interior spaces, serving as a striking collectible or container for dressing room accessories.

Produced during the reign of King Charles X in France (18241830), opaline glass is known for its translucent, semi-opaque finish achieved by adding bone ash or tin oxide to the batch, frequently decorated with hand-applied gilding or enamel.

These pieces were hand-blown using lead glass infused with opacifying agents, shaped in moulds or free-blown while hot, and subsequently decorated with mercury gilding fired at low temperatures.

Authentic items feature smooth, ground pontil marks on the base, soft light transmission showing a subtle reddish hue around edges when backlit, and hand-applied gold leaf displaying age-appropriate surface wear.

Display this object on a marble sideboard top, a mirrored vanity table, or within a glass cabinet where ambient light enhances the glass hue alongside complementary brass accessories.

Clean gently using a dry microfibre cloth, strictly avoiding water or liquid chemical solvents on the exterior gilding, as moisture can compromise delicate hand-applied gold leaf.
