This fine pair of George II brass candlesticks dates from 1750 and embodies the quintessential Georgian style. Rendered in a warm gold colour with a polished brass finish, the pieces exhibit visible surface wear and aged patination across their metallic surfaces. Each candlestick consists of a campana sconce with a removable nozzle above a knopped, turned baluster stem, all rising from a large, dished square base with softly bevelled edges. The overall dimensions measure 21 cm high, 11 cm wide, and 11 cm deep, providing a substantial presence well-suited for display on a mantelpiece within an English country house interior.

George II brass candlesticks date from the mid-18th century and are characterised by turned baluster stems, heavy cast brass construction, and square or shaped canted bases.

During the 18th century, brass candlesticks were typically cast in two vertical halves using sand moulds, then joined together and finished by turning on a lathe.

Authentic Georgian brass pieces often show visible seam lines inside the stem from two-part casting, irregular hand-finished details, uneven wear on the base, and a dense, heavy weight compared to modern reproductions.

Display a pair of brass candlesticks on a dining table centre, mantelpiece, or sideboard top alongside contemporary ceramics or glass to balance historic warmth with modern clean lines.

Remove wax buildup using hot water and a soft cloth, avoiding sharp metal scrapers; polish gently with a specialised metal restorer or leave the natural patination untouched depending on preference.
