This large 18th-century mule chest originates from the Georgian period, rendered in dark brown oak with brass hardware. The front displays four raised fielded panels with ogee tops above three lower drawers fitted with brass drop handles and small key escutcheons. Below the drawers rests a shaped, scalloped apron supported by stile feet, while the surface shows light wear and age-related marks alongside antique brass replacements. The construction measures 94 cm high, 152 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. This sizable storage piece fits naturally into an entrance hallway, bedroom, or living space to hold linens, blankets, or household items while adding traditional English country house character to the room.

A mule chest is a top-opening storage trunk equipped with one or more lower drawers, developed during the late 17th and 18th centuries in Britain as an evolution of the traditional coffer.

These chests were typically crafted from solid English oak, constructed using hand-cut dovetail joints, pegged mortise and tenon joinery, and fitted with brass swing handles.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-sawn timber marks, hand-forged iron or brass hardware, irregular peg placement, and natural surface wear consistent with age.

An oak mule chest serves as a grounding focal point in hallways, living rooms, or bedrooms, pairing well with contemporary art and neutral textiles.

Maintain solid oak by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping it away from direct heat sources and high moisture.
