Designed by René Lalique in 1930, this Pinsons vase stands 19 cm high and exemplifies Art Deco design. The piece takes the form of a clear glass flared trumpet rim sitting above a lower section in opalescent blue glass with a moulded finish. Detailed relief decoration wraps around the base, showing a continuous pattern of finches amongst foliage. A stepped opalescent pedestal foot supports the body, while the top edge holds a thin gilded rim. In a contemporary home, this vessel finds a natural home displayed on a sideboard top or displayed on a living room mantelpiece. The translucent glass catches the light when placed near a window, highlighting the blue staining within the bird carvings. Collectors and admirers of twentieth-century glassware use such decorative objects as central display pieces in dining rooms or display cabinets.

Introduced in the early 1930s, the Pinsons pattern was designed by Rene Lalique and features a motif of finches nestling among foliage. It exemplifies the French Art Deco movements transition toward moulded decorative art glass, blending naturalistic themes with geometric vessel proportions.

Opalescent glass from this era was produced using press-moulding techniques where specific chemical compounds, such as bone ash or fluorides, were added to the glass batch. Controlled reheating caused these elements to crystallise, producing a translucent, iridescence-like optical effect that responds dynamically to ambient light.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-engraved, wheel-cut, or moulded signatures such as R. LALIQUE FRANCE. Collectors also inspect the precise sharpness of the moulded details, the consistency of the opalescence, and the absence of modern seam lines.

Position the glass vessel on a mantlepiece, console, or sideboard where backlighting or direct sunlight can pass through the opalescent areas. Pairing the piece with dark wood or minimalist backdrops enhances the subtle blue and golden hues within the glass.

Wash the glass gently by hand using warm water and a mild dish detergent, avoiding abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals. Ensure the item is dried with a soft microfibre cloth and kept away from extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent thermal shock.
