Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A traditional small mahogany chest features a compact footprint, typically housing three to four graduated drawers. Many designs include bracket feet, brass hardware, and occasional writing slides or inset leather tops to maximize functionality in smaller living spaces.

Quality mahogany chests feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer lining, solid timber construction or rich veneers, and sturdy back panels. Hardware usually consists of cast brass handles, such as swan-neck or batwing escutcheons, secured through the drawer fronts.

Authentic and well-crafted pieces exhibit signs of natural timber aging, original brass fitting wear, hand-planed drawer bottoms, and irregular dovetailing. Examining the timber grain, drawer runners for operational wear, and construction methods underneath helps verify age and craftsmanship.

Small mahogany chests function effectively as symmetrical bedside tables in a master bedroom or as side tables flanking a sofa in a formal sitting room. Their rich wood tones provide warmth and contrast against contemporary neutral walls and contemporary textiles.

Dust mahogany timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax polish occasionally in the direction of the grain. For inset leather tops, clean with a slightly damp cloth and treat periodically with a specialized leather conditioner to prevent drying or cracking.
