This George V powder compact belongs to the 1930 period in an Art Deco style, constructed from silver and enamel in blue and silver colours. The circular form possesses a hinged lid with a guilloche pattern and engine turning, presenting a radiating pattern across the pale blue enamel finish on the front. Polished silver covers the sides and rear, complemented by two small flanges to the front that aid in opening the compact, alongside internal hallmarks for Birmingham silversmiths Hassett & Harper and a maker's mark. The interior contains an immaculate mirror to the top section and a shallow section to the base for powder. Measuring 5 cm high, 5 cm wide, and 0.5 cm deep, the slim compact maintains an immaculate condition with perfect enamel. Place this item on a bedside table within a modern home as a decorative accessory for daily use or display, complementing dressing tables and traditional interiors alike. The polished hardware and vibrant blue tones bring a touch of vintage elegance to any surface without taking up excess space.

Guilloche enamel is a decorative technique where a precise, repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into metal before being coated with translucent enamel, creating a reflective geometric finish popularized in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Antique compacts were commonly crafted from sterling silver or brass, decorated with enamel work, and featured interior mirrors along with dedicated powder compartments.

Authentic British pieces bear official silver hallmarks indicating the assay office, purity mark, and date letter, accompanied by undamaged translucent enamel applied over uniform engine turning.

Small silver compacts are typically displayed on vanity trays, dressing tables, inside glass trinket dishes, or curated within shadow boxes and display cabinets.

Enamel should be gently wiped with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or submersion in liquid, while the silver frame can be lightly polished with a non-abrasive silver cloth.
