Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French Transitional floor-standing corner cabinet uses tulipwood, purplewood, sycamore, grey St Anne marble, and gilt bronze mounts in warm brown tones. The shaped piece has a chevron-veneered tambour front, a moulded marble top, a riband inlaid frieze, an undulating floral marquetry frieze, simulated flutes, and short cabriole legs with sabots. Visible details include vertical wooden slat mouldings across the curved sliding door, intricate gilt bronze mounts centred on the lower apron, and short curved feet. The cabinet measures 74 cm wide, 55 cm deep, and 73 cm high. In a modern interior, this corner unit provides practical display and storage space in a living room, hallway, or bedroom corner. The compact footprint fits neatly into unused angles while offering a surface on top for lamps, ornaments, or photographs, paired with an enclosed interior compartment behind the tambour door.

An encoignure is a French term for a corner cabinet specifically designed to fit into the angle where two walls meet. Popularised in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these cabinets were created to utilise awkward interior spaces while displaying fine marquetry and marble tops.

Nineteenth-century French corner cabinets frequently incorporate exotic timber veneers such as tulipwood, kingwood, purplewood, and sycamore laid over an oak or pine carcass. They often feature fitted marble tops, slatted tambour doors mounted on canvas backing, and gilt bronze mounts.

Authentic period pieces generally exhibit hand-cut veneering, original canvas backing on flexible tambour doors, and cast bronze mounts secured with early screws. Inspecting the underside or rear frame often reveals uneven hand-planed timber and signs of natural age-related oxidisation.

Placing a corner cabinet in an unused angle of a dining room or hallway softens room perimeters while adding functional storage. Pairing the warm wood tones with neutral wall palettes and displaying a single ceramic or bronze object on the marble surface creates a balanced focal point.

Clean wood surfaces with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year along the grain. Dust bronze mounts with a soft brush without liquid polish, and wipe marble tops with a damp cloth using pH-neutral soap to prevent etching.
