Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian pair of foot stools is formed from dark brown timber with a rosewood finish and padded tops covered in off-white calico. Each piece rests on four carved cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet. The frames display detailed carved decoration along the rails, and the upholstery shows visible wear and unfinished edges consistent with items in need of reupholstery. Several legs bear evidence of old repairs. Each foot stool measures 28 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 34 cm deep. These compact furnishings suit placement beside a fireplace hearth or as accent pieces in a traditional living room, study, or bedroom. Their diminutive proportions allow them to fit easily into modest spaces while offering low seating or foot support. Buyers undertaking restoration projects can replace the existing calico with new fabric to match existing interior schemes.

FAQs

Victorian rosewood footstools are characterized by rich dark timber frames, detailed hand carving, curved cabriole legs, and plush upholstered tops designed for decorative and practical home use.

Traditional 19th-century footstools feature solid or veneered dark hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, paired with natural horsehair padding, webbing, calico, and needlepoint or velvet upholstery.

Authentic period footstools feature hand-carved joinery, original corner blocks, distinctive dark grain pattern variations typical of rosewood, and evidence of historical traditional upholstery methods.

Pairing antique rosewood footstools with clean-lined contemporary sofas or placing them near a fireplace creates a textured, layered aesthetic that bridges historical and modern design elements.

Rosewood frames should be dusted regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and treated occasionally with natural beeswax polish to protect the timber finish and preserve grain lustre.
