This nineteenth-century French armoire in walnut and burr walnut exhibits a warm brown colour with a patinated finish and a figured timber veneer. The French Provincial wardrobe stands 191 cm high, 114 cm wide, and 51 cm deep. It features an arched cornice topped by turned corner finials, a central circular medallion, and two fielded panel doors flanked by turned columns, sitting above a plinth base with block feet. The piece contains an internal hanging rail, original pegs, and a working key with a tassel for the original lock. Minor age-related repairs appear across the structure, which remains sound and free from woodworm. Such a wardrobe provides practical storage for clothing in a bedroom or dressing room.

A French walnut armoire is a tall, free-standing wardrobe or storage cabinet featuring double doors, traditionally crafted in France during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries using figured or burr walnut veneers.

Nineteenth-century French armoires typically feature solid wood frames faced with highly figured walnut or burr walnut veneers, mortise and tenon joinery, carved architectural cornices, and hand-forged steel or brass locks.

Authentic nineteenth-century armoires show signs of hand-saw marks on back panels, original steel or brass locks with keys, natural age-related patination to the walnut veneer, and traditional dovetail or peg joinery.

A French walnut armoire can serve as a focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living area, providing vertical storage while balancing modern minimalist furnishings with natural timber tones.

Maintain a walnut armoire by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, applying high-quality beeswax paste annually along the grain, and keeping stable humidity levels away from direct heat sources to prevent veneer lifting.
