Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1910 English country food cupboard and hall cabinet is made from solid dark brown oak with a rich, time-worn timber grain and complemented by hand-forged wrought iron hardware. The tall, narrow storage piece displays a protruding moulded cornice across the top, above a single door constructed with fielded panels in vertical and horizontal configurations. The door opens via a dark metal ring drop handle and hangs on visible rustic strap hinges with prominent fixings on the left stile. The base features a further two recessed vertical panels flanked by upright legs, presenting a rustic farmhouse aesthetic well-suited for hallway storage or kitchen utility. Practical in proportions for everyday living, this solid oak cupboard integrates smoothly into traditional and transitional interiors as a standalone storage cabinet for dry goods, tableware, or hallway essentials. The timber surfaces show an aged patina with varied grain tones throughout the panelled facade and framework. Placed in an entryway, dining room, or kitchen, it provides enclosed vertical storage while serving as a distinct architectural accent reflecting early twentieth-century vernacular furniture design.

FAQs

A food cupboard, historically known as a food safe or livery cupboard, was used in early European households to store dry food items, bread, and provisions securely while maintaining ventilation.

Early oak cupboards were typically constructed from solid oak timber using mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs, combined with field-panelled doors and hand-forged iron fittings.

Authentic period oak features signs of hand-planed timber, irregular jointing pegs, hand-hammered ironwork, and genuine wear to structural contact points and surrounding keyholes or handles.

A tall oak food cupboard serves as a functional storage piece in an entryway, kitchen, or dining space, providing visual character when contrasted against neutral walls and minimalist surroundings.

Maintain the surface by applying a thin layer of natural beeswax polish annually, buffing along the wood grain, and keeping the cupboard away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement.
