Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian sterling silver muffineer caster or pounce pot is made in the Grand Regency style. The metal displays a bright silver exterior finish combined with a vibrant gilded vermeil interior. The cylindrical vessel incorporates concentric reeding along the outer body, alongside a hand-pierced dome featuring small round ventilation holes and a matching inner lid component with a stepped central boss. Weighing 94 grams, the object functions practically as a tabletop accessory suited for placement on a sideboard top in a dining room or living space. The piece exhibits a polished reflective surface texture and clean edges free from surface dings or visible repairs.

FAQs

In the Georgian era, casters and muffineers were tabletop vessels designed to sprinkle sugar, spices, or salt onto food, while pounce pots were used on writing desks to disperse powder onto parchment to prepare it for ink.

These items were predominantly crafted from hallmarked sterling silver, frequently featuring gold-gilt interiors to prevent corrosion from moisture, spices, or salt.

Authentic British pieces from 1808 display full official hallmarks, including the monarch duty mark, the lion passant indicating sterling purity, a town mark, a specific date letter, and a registered makers mark.

A silver caster can be displayed on a dining sideboard, arranged on an executive office desk as a decorative object, or housed within a glazed cabinet alongside period silverware.

Clean the silver exterior using a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver polish, while avoiding abrasive cleaners on the gilded interior to prevent premature wear of the gold washing.
