Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This eighteenth-century rustic farmhouse spice cupboard is constructed from dark brown oak. The handmade piece displays pegged timber joints, a single fielded panel door, and a shaped brass keyhole escutcheon. Visible signs of age include natural timber patination and surface wear across the dark wood. The front door is set within a moulded frame, secured with visible pegs at the upper and lower corners, and fitted with a later working lock and key. Measuring 50 cm high, 44 cm wide, and 24 cm deep, this wall cabinet suits placement on a sideboard top in a kitchen, hallway, or living area. Inside, the compact storage unit holds four small internal drawers alongside a secret drawer, offering practical concealment for small household items. The traditional materials and dark wood grain complement period and rustic interior schemes alike, bringing historical character to everyday storage surfaces.

FAQs

A spice cupboard is a small wall-mounted or tabletop cabinet historically used in seventeenth and eighteenth-century households to store valuable spices securely under lock and key.

Early spice cupboards were typically constructed from solid oak using pegged mortise and tenon joints, fielded panel doors, and hand-fitted brass or iron escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit evidence of hand-planed timber, wooden peg construction, historical wear around the lock mechanism, and deep age-related surface patina.

Mount the cupboard on a wall in a kitchen or hallway to function as a key cabinet, or place it atop a sideboard as a tabletop storage piece.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually along the wood grain to protect the finish.
