This Bohemian iridescent glass flower bowl dates from c1900 in the Art Nouveau style by Wilhelm Kralik. The piece takes a rounded honeycomb form with a straight ribbed neck, a lobed body, and a hammered Martele pattern finish across its amber surface. The iridescent glaze shows amber, purple, and green highlights across the textured surface, while the vertical lobes structure the wide rounded body and the short neck has a series of short vertical indentations. The bowl measures 13 cm high and 16.5 cm wide. Placement in the home works well on a deep window sill or a sunlit conservatory shelf to catch the light through the iridescent amber glass. The bowl serves practically for holding small floral arrangements or stands alone as a decorative bowl in a reception room or study.

Bohemian Art Nouveau glass refers to decorative glassware produced in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, defined by fluid organic forms, iridescent surface lustres, and textured finishes inspired by natural elements.

The martele effect was created by blowing glass into textured moulds to mimic hand-hammered metal surfaces, after which metallic chloride salts were applied to the heated vessel to form a iridescent, light-refracting coating.

Authentic pieces typically display polished pontil marks on the base, distinctive lobed or dimpled hand-blown moulding, and consistent iridescent surface treatments without modern secondary spray marks.

Position the piece on a tabletop or window ledge where direct or indirect natural light can interact with the iridescent sheen, contrasting its textured pattern against clean, minimalist surroundings.

Wash hand-crafted glass using lukewarm water and a gentle liquid soap, avoiding chemical cleaners or abrasive pads that might strip the delicate surface metallic lustre, and dry immediately with a lint-free cloth.
