Antique Elm Blanket Box

Description

A good antique elm blanket box dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is well made a small brass escutcheon and brass carrying handles. The lid opens on strap hinges and it has a small candle box inside. The elm has a lovely grain and beautiful rich patina and it is a good size for a coffee table.

The box is in good condition for its age. It is strong and sturdy and generally clean and tidy inside. There are signs of use and age, some general knocks and marks and some old shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental. There are signs of old woodworm which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the box structurally or aesthetically. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
