Bohemian acid-etched glass refers to art glass produced in the historical region of Bohemia, characterised by chemical etching techniques used to create multi-layered motifs and textured frosted finishes popularised in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Artisans applied an acid-resistant mask to select areas of glass before immersing the piece in hydrofluoric acid to dissolve the exposed regions, creating raised relief patterns.

Authentic pieces feature sharp detail in the etched relief, pontil marks on the base, distinct glass layering, and weight characteristic of hand-blown soda-lime or lead glass.

Display the vessel on a sideboard or window sill where natural light accentuates the translucency and relief details of the glass design.

Hand wash gently with lukewarm water and mild liquid soap, avoiding abrasive cloths or harsh chemical cleaners that could mark the frosted surface.
