Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The cabinet on stand gained popularity in Northern Europe during the seventeenth century, particularly in Holland and Britain. Designed to elevate decorative storage units above floor level, these pieces combined practical utility with grand architectural features such as carved panels and turned legs.

Traditional cabinets on stand are built primarily from solid hardwoods like oak or walnut. Construction techniques typically feature mortise and tenon joinery, hand-turned bulbous legs, raised door panels, and carved decorative friezes.

Authentic pieces from this period display classic Dutch design characteristics, including arched panel doors, heavy mouldings, inverted pear or cup-and-cover turned legs, and stretchers. Timber surface wear and joinery techniques consistent with early twentieth-century manufacturing also help establish authenticity.

To integrate a dark or warm oak cabinet into a contemporary space, pair it with neutral linen fabrics, understated modern art, or light wall finishes. The visual height of the stand creates an impression of space, making it a focal point in hallways, dining rooms, or living areas.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and apply high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain. Keep the cabinet away from central heating radiators or damp conditions to prevent timber expansion, shrinkage, or cracking.
