Product Description:
Ansonia Movement & Timepiece Mechanism:
This 16-inch mahogany wall clock houses a good quality, single-barrel, spring-driven American Ansonia timepiece movement. Originally, manufacturers shipped these movements out to India and cased them locally there, which reduced shipping costs at the time. Because a timepiece mechanism does not chime or strike, this clock ticks quietly rather than sounding the hour. The movement has been serviced, so it now runs reliably and keeps good time.
Case & Bezel:
Our workshop has cleaned and wax-polished mahogany case by hand, reviving the wonderful ebonised colour. On the back of the clock, a bracket lets you fix it securely to the wall.
A hinged, solid brass bezel houses the glass that protects the dial while the clock runs. Because the bezel opens on a right-hand hinge, you can easily reach in to adjust or set the time. However, a catch on the back of the clock locks the bezel in place, so it cannot swing open accidentally.
Overall, this railway clock suits a variety of rooms and works equally well in traditional or contemporary settings. Indeed, it is a truly beautiful wall clock of classic styling and quality construction, and it will likely become a treasured member of the family before long. So, don't miss your chance to own it.
Condition Report:
This clock shows nominal signs of old use on the case and tin dial, but nothing significant given its age. The mahogany case remains in good condition, since our workshop has cleaned and wax-polished it by hand. At some point in the past, the tin dial has been replaced. The brass-hinged bezel works well, though it has slight flex in the hinge. The bezel-locking latch is present and working, and it stops the bezel from opening accidentally. The original spring mechanism remains intact; it works well and keeps good time. Please also note that this clock retains its original mechanism; we have not replaced it with a cheaper, value-reducing, battery-operated kit, unlike some clocks on the market.
