Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III breakfront bookcase is a grand timber cabinet dating from the mid-18th to early 19th century, characterized by a central section that projects forward from the side wings. These pieces typically feature glazed doors on the upper section and panelled doors or drawers below.

Cabinetmakers during the George III period predominantly utilized Cuban and West Indian mahogany, valued for its grain density and deep colour. Construction relied on hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary timbers, and flame mahogany veneers applied to solid substrate frames.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of hand craftsmanship, such as irregular drawer dovetails, hand-planed back panels, and period-correct glass with subtle distortion or air bubbles. Original brass hardware, natural timber shrinkage marks, and wear to the drawer runners also assist in verification.

A breakfront bookcase can serve as a focal point along a primary wall in a library, formal dining area, or large drawing room. Modern styling often pairs these substantial traditional pieces with minimalist art, contemporary ceramics, or neutral colour palettes to balance their visual mass.

Maintain the bookcase in an environment with stable relative humidity to prevent timber movement and veneer lifting. Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually, avoiding silicone-based commercial polishes.
