This stunning late 19th C. Empire style cut crystal and gilt bronze centrepiece bowl features a distinctive twin swan next handles integrated into a wave patterned rim. The premium hand cut crystal is set within a gilt bronze mount, and is supported by a tripartite pedestal base decorated with three sculpted dolphins. This beautiful bowl would make an amazing accent piece for many different rooms in the home, in a wide range of styles and settings.

Originating in early 19th-century France under Napoleon Bonaparte, the Empire style draws heavily on classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs. Common features include symmetrical silhouettes, gilded metal mounts, and emblems such as swans, eagles, laurels, and dolphins.

These vessels were crafted by casting bronze using the lost-wax method, chasing the surface details by hand, and applying gold via fire-gilding (ormolu). The accompanying lead crystal was mouth-blown and wheel-cut before being fitted into custom metal mounts.
