Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tea caddies emerged in Europe during the seventeenth century as secure vessels designed to preserve imported tea leaves. By the early twentieth century, silver tea caddies served functional storage purposes alongside decorative roles on tea trays and sideboards.

Silver tea caddies from this era were raised or fashioned from sterling silver, standardized at 925 parts per thousand purity. Lids were manufactured with tight friction fits or flush hinges to minimise air exposure and maintain leaf freshness.

Authentic British silver objects display official hallmark stamps denoting the purity mark, city assay mark, date letter, and makers mark. Inspecting these stamped marks under magnification allows precise verification of the origin and year of manufacture.

A silver tea caddy can be styled on a dining room sideboard, coffee table tray, or open kitchen shelving alongside contemporary glassware. Its reflective metallic surface provides textural contrast against matte timber or stone surfaces.

Routine care involves gentle polishing with a soft microfibre cloth and specialised silver polish to remove tarnish and prevent oxidisation. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and store silver objects in low-humidity environments to maintain the metal finish.
