Robert Belcher Antiques has dated this Indian Copper Repousse Vase to the 1880s.
A remarkable and highly decorative Indian copper vase dating from the late 19th century. Crafted from exceptionally heavy-gauge copper, this impressive piece demonstrates a level of workmanship rarely found, as repoussé decoration on such thick metal is considerably more challenging than on the thinner copper sheets more commonly used.

The decoration has been painstakingly raised and hammered from both the interior and exterior to create a deeply sculptural surface, before being further refined by hand with chisels and punches to produce crisp engraved details. The result is a richly textured and highly accomplished work of art.
These include horsemen engaged in hunting expeditions, alongside panels featuring mythical beasts, all executed in a classical Indian style. The waisted neck rises gracefully before gently flaring at the rim and is embellished with finely hand-chased floral ornamentation, providing an elegant contrast to the bold narrative scenes below.

An exceptional example of late 19th century Indian metalwork, displaying outstanding craftsmanship, artistic quality, and decorative appeal.
