Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Empire candelabras are early nineteenth-century decorative lighting pieces characterised by classical Greek and Roman motifs, symmetrical forms, and high-contrast metalwork. They often feature neoclassical figures supporting candle arms mounted on stepped bases.

These items were primarily constructed from cast bronze, using mercury gilding, known as ormolu, for gold surfaces alongside dark patinated bronze. High-grade marble or slate was also frequently integrated into the base foundations.

Authentic early nineteenth-century pieces display heavy cast bronze construction, hand-chased details, and irregular internal threading on assembly rods. Mercury gilding exhibits a deep lustre with natural age wear rather than uniform modern electroplating.

Position a pair symmetrically on a modern sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or console table to create a focal point. Combining contrasting patinated bronze with minimalist modern artwork provides balance between historical and contemporary aesthetic elements.

Dust gently using a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth without commercial chemical metal polishes. Avoid applying water or abrasive solvents, as moisture can compromise the original gilding and patinated surfaces over time.
