An elegant and highly versatile 19th-century Italian Empire period bedside cabinet, circa 1820.
Made from walnut with a rich, warm patina, this piece features a solid timber top framed by a classic raised tray-top gallery edge.
The cabinet showcases classic Neoclassical architectural lines, flanked by full-turn columns adorned with original cast-brass ormolu mounts. The upper portion contains a smooth-running frieze drawer featuring a decorative central brass rosette and a beautifully lined patterned interior. Below, a single panelled cupboard door opens to reveal a clean, fully shelved two-tier storage space.
Supported on substantial, robust block plinth feet, this handsome cabinet is perfectly proportioned to serve as a bedside nightstand, a sophisticated sofa side table, or a lamp table in a principal living room.
Very good antique condition with minor surface wear, small marks, and age-related character consistent with a piece of this age. There are some historical, com
...pletely dead and inactive woodworm flight holes—a very common and reassuring sign of authenticity in regional Italian furniture of this era—which have been fully treated as a precaution. Structurally solid with firm joints, the drawer and door operate smoothly, and the original brass mounts retain a lovely aged finish.
