Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French table lamp exemplifies the Rococo Revival style, standing 60 cm high, 22 cm wide, and 20 cm deep. The piece combines a central ebonised fluted wooden column with gilt bronze and brass mounts, presenting a striking contrast of black and gold finishes throughout its vertical structure. Ornate cast bronze decoration includes detailed acanthus leaf capitals, a central foliate cartouche, and sculptural scroll feet spreading from the base to support the structure. An exposed brass lamp holder sits atop the column, complete with visible wiring components. Placed on a sideboard top, this lamp suits a hallway, living room, or study, introducing classical French chateau character to interior schemes while providing practical surface illumination.

FAQs

19th-century French table lamps frequently draw inspiration from Rococo, Neoclassical, and Empire designs, featuring ebonised columns and detailed ormolu or gilt bronze mounts.

These lamps were primarily crafted using cast bronze or brass, which was chased and gilded, often paired with ebonised wood or dark metal shafts for visual contrast.

Authentic period pieces typically feature heavy cast metal construction, detailed hand-chased foliage or scrollwork, and signs of historical electrical conversion from oil or candle formats.

Position the lamp on a sideboard, console table, or writing desk, pairing it with a tailored silk shade to complement the detailed metalwork.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid chemical metal polishes, which can strip the original gilded layer and natural aged patina.
