Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in eighteenth-century France during the Louis XVI and Neoclassical periods, urn-form lamps evolved from decorative stone vases outfitted with gilt bronze mounts. These pieces drew heavy inspiration from classical Greco-Roman architecture and were later adapted for electrical illumination in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These lamps are typically constructed using sculpted marble, alabaster, or porphyry paired with cast bronze or brass mounts. The metal fittings are frequently finished with ormolu gilding or detailed hand-chasing to highlight intricate botanical and architectural motifs.

Authentic pieces feature natural variations in the marble veining, heavy cast metalwork, and precise hand-chased details on the mounts. Look for signs of age such as natural oxidation in metal crevices, historic thread pitch on internal rods, and evidence of early electrical conversion.

Place the lamp on a contemporary wooden sideboard, console, or dark wood desk to create an elevated contrast between modern silhouettes and historical textures. Pair it with neutral stone walls, framed artwork, or minimal linen lamp shades to balance its detailed metallic mounts.

Dust marble and metal surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid chemical solvents, water, or abrasive metal polishes on gilt bronze surfaces, as these can strip original gilding or patina; ensure all wiring is inspected and tested by a qualified electrician.
