Clock Grandfather Longcase C1822 William Mitchell Norwich

Here we have a beautiful and rare Norwich clock by William Mitchell. Rare for two reasons William Mitchell is only recorded as working in Norwich between 1822 and 1824. Secondly i have never seen a dial with such beautifully painted landmarks of Norwich. The paintings are perfect oil miniatures of the cathredral, castle, pulls ferry, Pockthorpe gate and the Adam and Eve public house. The painted sign outside the pub has Adam and Eve written on which can be seen with a magnifying glass. The clock has an 8 day movement which is completely original and in serviced cleaned perfect working order. The original striking bell is in place with a perfect ping. The Oakcase is delicious in colour and bears the original hinges, escutcheon, working lock and key. The original pendulum and weights are also in place. The hood has three brass finials and two reeded pillars with brass mounts. There also two pillars to the back sides of the hood which is a beautiful touch and adds to the decoration. The case sits on bracket feet with a shaped frieze between. A fantastic rare original clock in excellent retail condition. The clock will be delivered and set up by a proffessional horologist and comes with a one year gaurantee. Dimensions are approx87.5 inches high 18.5 wide 9.5 deep.
