It dates from 1650-1675,and has some classic Welsh design traits. The V-cut jack boot feet sides of the coffer that the Welsh used in furniture of 16th century design but continued to use up to 1675. By 1650 the plain front panel design stopped being used and the more decorative panels were being used, as is the case with this coffer . The top is a two plank top and has a scratch moulding to match the four scratch moulded panels; with the sides chip carved to prevent splitting. The interior has the classic candle box which is still there and untouched; unusually though there are shaped bracket feet tenoned into the front stile feet; this is a very rare and desirable feature.
