FAQs

The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in Britain during the late 19th century as a reaction against machine production, championing traditional craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and simple forms inspired by medieval design.

Craftsmen typically utilised native timbers such as oak, walnut, and fruitwoods, frequently employing ebonisation to mimic expensive exotic woods like ebony, alongside hand-painted panels and wrought iron hardware.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-crafted construction marks, mortise and tenon joints, natural material panels, and subtle decorative motifs that reflect individual artisan production rather than industrial manufacturing.

An ebonised cabinet provides strong graphical contrast against neutral walls, functioning well as an accent piece in minimalist spaces or blending into eclectic interiors featuring mixed historical periods.

Maintenance requires dusting with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally applying conservation-grade wax to nourish the finish, avoiding liquid cleaners, direct sunlight, and excessive humidity fluctuations.
