Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Long upholstered stools and benches evolved from utilitarian seating and footrests in European period homes, later developing into decorative pieces for bedrooms and drawing rooms during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Traditional construction typically features a solid hardwood frame such as walnut, oak, or mahogany, supported by traditional webbed or sprung upholstery foundations and natural stuffing materials.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the timber grain, hand-cut joinery, traditional upholstery methods, tool marks, and natural ageing characteristics of the wood and internal webbing.

Such pieces function effectively as end-of-bed seating, hallway benches, or coffee table alternatives, bridging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary living spaces.

Preservation involves regular dusting of the woodwork with a dry cloth, applying appropriate furniture wax periodically, and using professional cleaning methods for the fabric upholstery.
