Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chatelaine scent bottle is a small vial designed to hold liquid perfume, suspended from a decorative belt hook known as a chatelaine. Popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries, these portable flasks allowed women to carry fragrances to mask unpleasant odours or alleviate fainting.

These vessels were typically crafted from blown or moulded art glass, such as opal or bohemian glass, paired with metal mounts like ormolu, brass, or sterling silver. Stoppers were often fitted with cork or ground glass liners to prevent leakage.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-applied enamelling or gilding with natural wear, period-appropriate metal patination, and hand-finished glass pontil marks on the base. Modern reproductions often feature machine-made regularity and lack the historical weight and craftsmanship of the era.

Such miniature objects are ideally displayed as focal points within a curated tablescape, positioned on a mirrored tray atop a dressing table, or placed inside a glass-fronted cabinet alongside other small collectables to highlight their intricate detail.

Maintenance requires gentle dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Chemical cleaners, abrasive materials, and immersion in water must be avoided to protect delicate metal gilding and historic glass finishes.
