Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An opaque twist wine glass is an 18th-century English drinking vessel featuring internal white enamel threads embedded within a clear glass stem. Popularised around 1750 to 1780, these pieces reflect the skilled craftsmanship of Georgian glassmakers following taxes placed on glass weight.

Georgian glassmakers produced opaque twist stems by placing rods of opaque white enamel inside a mould, filling the remaining void with molten lead glass, and drawing and twisting the gathering while hot. The resulting patterned column was subsequently fused to the blown bowl and conical foot.

Authentic period glasses generally display minor hand-made irregularities, pontil scars or smoothed bases, and slight greyish tones characteristic of period lead glass formulas. Stems feature hand-drawn spiral variations rather than modern uniform machine patterns.

Display an antique glass on a timber sideboard top or inside a lit glass cabinet to highlight the internal stem detail. Arranging individual period glassware items alongside contemporary ceramic objects creates balanced visual texture.

Clean period stemware gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding rapid temperature changes that risk thermal shock. Store vessels individually to prevent rim contact, and never clean antique glassware in a dishwasher.
