Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE GEORGIAN ERA:
Rough snapped pontil mark on base: hand-blown work before smooth polished pontils took over.
Diamond facet-cut stem: cutting style popular in English glass from around 1775.
Faint circular tooling marks on the foot: shaped by hand on a glassmaker's chair.
Soft scratches under the foot rim: gentle wear from standing on hard surfaces.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Georgian lead glass wine glass originates from England and dates to circa 1790. It is a clear drinking vessel designed with a large round funnel bowl featuring facet cutting to the base, leading directly into a thick hexagonal facet-cut stem. The piece stands on a large, heavy, thick circular foot, forming a bold and robust example with strong proportions and distinctive construction. The glass shows excellent preservation with age-related wear, and remains free of chips, cracks, or restoration work. Standing 14.6 cm high with a rim diameter of 6.3 cm and a foot diameter of 7.8 cm, the glass provides a tangible connection to late-eighteenth-century English dining traditions. In a modern home, this piece fits naturally upon a sideboard top or within a display cabinet, serving as a functional drinking glass or a decorative object for collectors of historical tablewares.

Facet-cut stemware became prominent in Britain during the late 18th century, characterized by diamond, hexagonal, or flat cuts ground into the stem to refract light. This style developed following glass tax acts that encouraged diamond-cut ornamentation on lighter lead glass forms.

Georgian stemware was primarily crafted from heavy lead crystal, also known as flint glass, which incorporated lead oxide to increase clarity, weight, and refractive qualities ideal for wheel-cutting.

Authentic pieces typically display uneven hand-blown proportions, faint greyish-blue tones in the glass, natural wear on the base rim, and evidence of a snap-off or ground-out pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

Period glassware is commonly displayed inside lit glazed cabinets, arranged on drinks trolleys, or positioned on a sideboard alongside modern tableware to create contrast.

Glassware of this era must be washed by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap. Automatic dishwashers and hot water should be avoided to prevent clouding, thermal shock, and surface damage.
