Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late Victorian travelling trunk takes the form of a rustic farmhouse box constructed from natural pine timber. The structure displays exposed dovetail joinery at the corners, dark iron corner brackets secured with metal rivets, side carrying handles, and black stencilled lettering reading GPO on the front panel. The wooden surface shows visible grain patterns and signs of age from past utility. Measuring 40 cm high, 74 cm wide, and 50 cm deep, the piece offers compact storage capabilities suitable for practical home organisation. In a modern interior, this versatile trunk functions effectively as a coffee table in a living room, storage space at the foot of the bed in a bedroom, or an accent piece in a hallway. The sturdy design integrates naturally into domestic spaces requiring robust and functional storage solutions with traditional character.

FAQs

Late Victorian travelling trunks were robust wooden storage containers designed to transport personal belongings, tools, or postal goods safely during transit via rail and sea.

These trunks were typically constructed from solid pine, utilising exposed dovetail joinery at the corners and reinforced with heavy iron corner brackets and side carrying handles for structural integrity.

Authentic examples feature period dovetail joints, heavy ironwork showing natural oxidisation, original stencilled stamps or foundry marks, and signs of functional wear across the timber.

A flat-topped pine trunk functions effectively as a coffee table in a living space, a blanket box at the foot of a bed, or a characterful storage bench in an entryway.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry cloth and apply a high-quality clear beeswax periodically to maintain the surface finish, ensuring the item remains away from direct radiators to prevent timber shrinkage.
