This nineteenth-century military campaign trunk is a storage chest made from dark brown teakwood with solid brass strapwork, corner reinforcements, and a central latch clasp. The rectangular box stands on four low block feet and includes hinged lids with flush brass hardware along the top edges, secured by visible rivets on the metal mounts. Measuring 46 cm high, 97 cm wide, and 53.5 cm deep, the chest provides practical storage for living spaces, bedrooms, or studies, functioning well as a coffee table or blanket chest. Constructed from broad single panels of wood, the piece displays the rich grain of its timber alongside heavy decorative metal brackets typical of campaign furniture designed for travel. The polished metal fastenings contrast with the warm tone of the wood across the front and top surfaces. Placed at the foot of a bed, beneath a window, or beside a sofa, this versatile trunk adds traditional character while holding everyday items out of sight.

Military campaign trunks, also known as field chests, were designed during the 18th and 19th centuries to be transported during military operations. They feature flush brass corners, durable hardwoods like teak, and reinforced construction to withstand transit.

Campaign trunks were constructed from dense, water-resistant hardwoods such as teak, camphorwood, or mahogany. Brass straps, corner brackets, and latches were applied to reinforce the timber edges during transport.

Authentic 19th century pieces feature hand-cut joinery, flush-fitting brass hardware recessed into cutouts, and natural oxidisation across the metal surfaces. Original hardware was typically secured using hand-cut screws or iron rivets.

A brass bound trunk functions as a low coffee table in a living room or as storage at the foot of a bed. Combining rich timber surfaces with modern soft furnishings creates a balanced interior aesthetic.

Keep teak trunks away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement or cracking. Clean the wood with a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically while preserving the natural patina on the brass fittings.
