A fine and decorative pair of Japanese Export Kutani porcelain vases dating to circa 1900, late Meiji period. Each vase of elegant baluster form with flared rim and spreading foot, richly decorated in traditional Kutani enamels.
The bodies are finely hand-painted with figural scenes depicting women and children in garden settings, dressed in flowing kimono beneath flowering branches. The panels are set against a profuse ground of iron-red and gilt decoration, with intricate geometric and floral borders to the neck and foot. The shoulder features stylised medallions and scrolling motifs in green, red, and gold, characteristic of Kutani ware of this period.
The gilding remains bright and vibrant, and the enamels are well preserved, giving the pair excellent decorative appeal.
A striking and colourful pair, ideal for display on a mantelpiece, console, or cabinet.
