Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mule chest is a traditional storage vessel featuring a top coffer section accessed via a hinged lid, paired with one or more drawers built into the lower structure. Originating in the late 17th century, it evolved throughout the 18th century as a key piece of utilitarian household furniture.

Georgian oak mule chests were built using solid native timber, incorporating mortise and tenon jointing, hand-cut dovetails on the drawers, wooden pegging, and cast brass swan-neck or drop handles with decorative escutcheons.

Authentic pieces feature pegged joints, raised field panels or mouldings, hand-sawn timber marks on internal panels, period-appropriate brass hardware, and natural, uneven oxidation to the underside and drawer interiors.

Position the chest in an entryway, hallway, or bedroom to create structural ground, styling the top lid with modern table lamps, ceramic vases, or framed artwork to balance historical craftsmanship with contemporary design.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and damp environments, dusting regularly with a soft lint-free cloth, and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice per year to preserve the patina.
