Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Burr walnut furniture is characterised by the highly figured, swirling grain patterns harvested from the growth excrescences on walnut trees. It gained prominence during the late 17th century and saw major revivals during the Victorian and Edwardian periods, prized by cabinet makers for its decorative appeal.

These pieces typically feature fine walnut veneers laid over a secondary hardwood carcass, such as oak or pine, to prevent warping. Traditional construction methods involve dovetail joints for the drawers and hand-carved cabriole legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural ageing characteristics such as subtle crazing in the polish, hand-cut dovetails with minor irregularities, and the use of older secondary woods inside the drawers. The grain pattern on burr walnut veneer should show natural variations rather than repeating digital prints.

Incorporating antique burr walnut pieces into contemporary schemes adds warmth, texture, and historical contrast. They work effectively as bedside tables paired with minimalist lighting and neutral linens to let the rich timber grain stand out as a focal point.

Maintain walnut furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, which can dry out and split the veneer. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish sparingly to nourish the wood.
