Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901), encompassing various revivals that typically featured darker woods, substantial construction, and practical designs suited to the domestic needs of the period.

Cabinet makers of the era predominantly used dense tropical hardwoods such as mahogany and rosewood, often utilising secondary softwoods like pine for interior drawer linings and back panels.

Authentic pieces generally display period construction techniques, including hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes, solid timber backs, and original brass hardware or locks.

Pairing antique wooden furniture with modern minimalist decor creates a balanced, layered aesthetic that highlights the craftsmanship and rich tone of the vintage timber.

Maintain polished timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying a traditional beeswax polish to nourish the grain.
