Rare Historic Carriage Clock

19th century
Description

Historic Clock alert !!

This clock was owned by Rowland Hill the Inventor and Social reformer. Probably best known for creating the 'Penny Black' stamp and what was the Penny postage system.

This clock was sold by Grohe of Wigmore Street London and likely around 1875. The clock is quarter striking and has Alarm and date functions.

The base has a Strike / Silent lever and Rowland Hill engraved across the center. As a carriage clock is it high quality with a superb gilded case and bevelled 'white' glass, repeat function and calendar but with the historic connection to an important British figure (if not global) it makes this quite unique.
