This Victorian two-piece tableware set comprises a matching milk jug and a double-handled sugar bowl made from silver-plated electroplated nickel silver with a bright silver finish. Both items display elaborate repousse foliate scrollwork, detailed floral motifs, acanthus scrolls, blank cartouches on the exterior bodies, and original gilt interiors that provide a warm gold contrast. The sugar bowl stands on a circular foot with two curved loop handles, while the smaller jug features a shaped spout, a single handle, and rests on a matching pedestal base. The jug measures 13 cm in height and 11 cm in width, and the sugar bowl measures 12 cm in height and 20 cm in width from handle to handle. In a modern interior, this set functions as elegant tableware for serving tea or coffee in a dining room, or sits on a sideboard top to add a traditional English country house aesthetic to a living space. The surfaces present bright silver plating without major dents or damage, while the gilded interiors exhibit age-appropriate patina that highlights the interior texture of each vessel.

Victorian silver-plated tea accessories from the late nineteenth century often feature ornate Rococo Revival design elements, including elaborate floral repousse work, chased scroll patterns, sculpted handles, and gilded interiors designed to protect against oxidation.

These pieces were produced using electroplating, a process where a thin layer of pure silver was deposited onto a base metal core, such as nickel silver or Britannia metal. Decorative relief designs were achieved using repousse hammering and surface chasing techniques.

Authentic pieces generally display manufacturer touchmarks or stamps indicating electroplating, such as EPNS (Electroplated Nickel Silver) or specific maker initials. Natural signs of age include light surface tarnishing and subtle rub marks where the base metal shows through high-wear points.

Place the pieces together on a mirrored tray atop a dining room sideboard or kitchen island to create an elegant tea station display. They can also be integrated into a glass display cabinet alongside contemporary ceramics for textural contrast.

Clean gently using a soft cloth and a specialised, non-abrasive silver polish formulated for electroplated items. Avoid harsh dip chemicals or abrasive sponges that can wear down the thin outer layer of silver plating.
