This Edwardian ink well and pen stand is an accessory for a gentleman's library or office desk. Manufactured in the middle of the Edwardian era, it is constructed from clear moulded glass and solid sterling silver. The piece comprises an integrated glass inkwell positioned at the back, topped with a plain silver collar and a flat hinged lid, and a base featuring three parallel grooves designed to hold pens or pencils. The lid is unengraved and carries hallmarks for Birmingham 1906 alongside the maker's mark of John Grinsell & Sons, while an original glass liner sits inside the well. Measuring 5 cm high, 13 cm wide, and 6 cm deep, this compact writing accessory sits neatly on any modern work surface or writing table. The clear glass base displays crisp moulded details along the pen tray and the stepped housing of the inkwell, contrasting with the reflective sheen of the silver hardware. It serves as a practical desk organizer and a functional receptacle for everyday writing instruments in a home study or traditional office setting.

An antique silver inkwell stand served as a functional desk accessory designed to hold liquid ink alongside dedicated rests or trays for dip pens during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These writing accessories typically combine heavy moulded or hand-cut lead crystal glass bases with sterling silver or silver-plated hinged lids, mounts, and collars.

Authentic pieces feature clear British hallmarks stamped onto the silver collar or lid, along with period-appropriate hand-cut glass facets and traditional hand-assembled hinges.

An antique inkwell makes an elegant decorative accent when placed on a gentlemans library desk, a home office bookshelf, or an entryway console alongside leather-bound books.

Clean the glass base gently with warm water and mild liquid soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, while polishing the silver components with a soft microfibre cloth and specialised silver polish.
