The World is Made of Glass Ltd. has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The glasses are in excellent condition. They show age related wear and tear consistent with nearly 200 years of use.
The glasses measure 9.8 cm (3.9 inches) in diameter across the bowl rims and are 16 cm (6.4 inches) in height. The bowls are bucket-shaped and are copper wheel-engraved with rose sprigs featuring an unopened bud and a cartouche to verso containing the initials "MA" and "EJS", the cartouches being flanked by pairs of barley ears. The bowls sit on collars and hollow ball knops containing George II silver coins. One coin features the King's head to one side around which are the letters "Georgius III Dei Gratia" and on the other side are the words "Bank Token Five Pence Irish 18*5" where the asterisk denotes a hole in the coin. The coin in the second rummer features the King's head to one side around which are the letters "Georgius II Dei Gratia" and on the other side are four coats of arms around which are letters that we can't decipher. The knops sit on basal collars and plain feet with rough pontil marks that measure 8.7 cm (3.5 inches) in diameter. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration.
Lead glass, each glass weighing in at 490 g. (~ 1 lb. 1 oz.).
