Imari porcelain is a style of Japanese ceramic originating from the Arita region in Hizen province, historically exported through the port of Imari and characterised by cobalt blue underglaze paired with overglaze iron-red and gilding.

Traditional Imari ceramics were formed from kaolin porcelain clay fired at high temperatures, with initial underglaze blue decoration applied before glazing, followed by additional overglaze enamel painting and gold leaf application in subsequent firings.

Authentic antique Imari ceramics typically feature slight hand-painted variations, subtle firing spur marks on the underside, a dense three-colour palette of cobalt blue, rust red, and white porcelain ground, and detailed floral or landscape motifs.

An Imari plate can be presented on a display stand atop a sideboard, arranged within a decorative wall plate display, or positioned flat on an entry console table as a focal accent.
