Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Silver plate requires gentle cleaning with a specialized non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to prevent wearing down the thin layer of silver, avoiding harsh chemical dips and ensuring the wooden bases are kept dry to prevent warping.

These pieces can be integrated into modern schemes by using them on sideboards or bar carts to hold small decorative objects, or by pairing them with contemporary glassware on a dining table to introduce metallic texture and historical contrast.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hallmarks or electroplate marks, weight, the quality of hand-chased detailing, and the patina of the underlying base materials, as older pieces exhibit wear patterns consistent with age and traditional manufacturing techniques.

Traditional Victorian coasters typically feature a pierced, embossed, or chased silver-plated gallery soldered to a heavy turned wooden base, often made of mahogany or oak with a central silver boss and lined with baize or felt on the underside.

Wine coasters became prominent on British dining tables during the late 18th and 19th centuries, designed to protect polished mahogany and walnut dining surfaces from moisture rings and bottle scratches as bottles were passed around the table after meals.
