A pair of nineteenth-century Regency wine coasters originates from circa 1830. Constructed from Old Sheffield Plate and timber, the pieces display a silver and warm brown colour scheme with polished metal elements. Each circular coaster features a raised rim with embossed grapevine motifs, pierced fluting, and a turned wooden base inset with a central silver boss. The metalwork shows copper bleed along the raised edges and wear to the central buttons. Practical dimensions measure 5 cm high and 19.5 cm wide. These functional tableware items fit well upon a dining table, sideboard top, or bar cart during formal meals or social gatherings. They serve to hold wine bottles while protecting surfaces from condensation and drips. The traditional design complements period dining rooms and classic interior settings, offering both decorative appeal and utility for everyday hosting.

Old Sheffield Plate refers to a manufacturing technique invented in the 18th century where layers of silver were fused onto copper ingots prior to being rolled into sheets and crafted into tableware and wine accessories.

Traditional Regency and William IV wine coasters feature silver or silver-plated metal rimsoften finished with chased foliage patternsmounted onto turned wooden bases with central metal bosses.

Authentic period pieces often show traces of copper visible through areas where the silver layer has worn from polishing over time, known as copper bleed, alongside turned wood bases rather than modern weighted cast bases.

These decorative metal accessories can be positioned as decorative tabletop accents on a sideboard, displayed on a drinks trolley alongside glass decanters, or used on a dining table to hold bottles.

Wipe the silver surfaces gently with a specialised silver polishing cloth and avoid immersion in water to prevent the internal wooden bases from warping or expanding.
