Description

A beautiful and useful Art Deco birds eye maple and walnut cabinet. This was made in England, it dates from the 1930’s.

This is of outstanding quality, its a great size. It looks like bedside cabinet size in the images, but in reality it is much taller, offering lots of storage space within the eight internal drawers. This is predominantly birds eye which has a gorgeous colour tone, it contrasts beautifully with the darker walnut banding on the top and lower edges.

We have had this stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is superb throughout.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco emerged in France during the 1910s and flourished internationally during the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and luxurious materials like exotic veneers and metals.

Art Deco cabinet makers frequently utilised exotic timbers such as birds eye maple, walnut, ebony, and Macassar ebony, often combined with contrasting veneers, chrome hardware, and glass.

Authentic pieces typically feature distinctive geometric silhouettes, high-gloss French polished or lacquered finishes, book-matched veneer patterns, and period-appropriate internal construction methods.

An Art Deco cabinet serves as a striking focal point and can be paired with neutral walls, minimalist contemporary seating, and metallic accents to highlight its rich wood grain and architectural form.

Preserve antique wood cabinets by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking, and clean periodically with a soft, dry cloth or specialist wax.
