This set of four glass rinsers dates from 1860 in the Grand Regency style, formed from clear hand-blown glass with curved profiles. Each piece carries an engraved grapevine design encircling the exterior, complemented by twin pouring spouts on opposite sides. The undersides display minor usage scratches, while the overall condition remains good. Individual rinsers measure 7 cm high, 15 cm wide and 12.5 cm deep. Position these items upon a sideboard top within an English Country House interior. The transparent material and frosted botanical motifs suit contemporary dining settings, functioning effectively for table service or decorative display. The circular rims and balanced proportions allow practical placement on various wooden furniture surfaces without occupying excessive room.

Glass rinsers, popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, were individual tabletop vessels filled with cold water used to rinse wine glasses between courses during formal meals.

They were typically hand-blown from lead crystal or soda glass, frequently featuring wheel-engraved motifs such as grapevines, floral patterns, or faceted cutting.

Authentic examples usually feature twin pouring spouts, hand-engraved decoration, slight variations in glass thickness, and a ground or polished pontil mark on the base.

These versatile vessels can be styled on a dining sideboard, repurposed as small dessert bowls, or used on a dressing table to hold small items and jewellery.

Hand wash the glass in tepid water using mild dish soap, avoiding dishwashers or sudden temperature changes that could cause thermal shock and cracking.
